hello all.
I am writing this from cristin's house, as I STILL have no power. Gwen and Molly, you don't know this-- we had a storm in Memphis on Friday and a lot of the city lost its power-- like 140,000 people were affected. MLGW (our light, gas, and water company) has been working around the clock, and as of right now-- according to the 5:00 news, 18,000 people are still without, and surprise surprise, we are part of the lucky few. Ain't life swell? ;)
So basically, that sucks because I sweat through the night and because our water heater is electric and thus doesn't work, I get up and take a cold shower. Mmm. Hopefully it will be back soon, because I would just love to be able to stay in my house and sleep without sweating. Plus, I was going to paint my room at home (in the process of turning it into a guest bedroom) this week, but because we have no power, and thus no light or airconditioning, I can't paint because we wouldn't be able to see the light spots or get the smell out of the house without circulation. It also means my car isn't any closer to getting fixed because Dad was working on it (had a few finishing things to do before taking it to get painted) when the storm hit, and now without electricity, is unable to finish or get it off of the [electric] lift.
Yay, living like rednecks! Woo.
In other news, GUINI came to visit. Gwen is the only one unaware of this, so sorry to repeat. M & S, you can skip this part if you want. Anyway, she called me on Sunday, stuck in the Memphis airport, and unable to get out until noon on Monday. So I picked her up around 7 and we hung out all night. It was fabulous. She's so incredible-- she told me all about her 2 weeks of hiking (and rock climbing and repelling) 100 miles in the Grand Canyon. She's ridiculous-- I would rather eat my own toe than do any of that and she was bursting and bragging about it, saying how lucky she was to be able to go. I love that we're friends. Anyway, it was fab to see her because she's super positive about everything and made me feel bad about complaining about having no AC. :)
What else is new? Oh, grandparents aren't coming tomorrow-- they called yesterday close to tears telling my mom that the government took away my Uncle Tom's dissability pay, so he can't afford to stay in his apartment, and probably won't be able to move to Memphis, and thus, thy won't be moving to Memphis. Aunt Joan and Mom were very upset-- but we found out today that it was just a paperwork error and they are still good to go. But they're still a little shaken up by the whole experience, and took it as a sign that they shouldn't come down to look at places tomorrow. They are still planning on moving here though. They're just putting off looking at places for a while. Whatever...
Heading to Alabama this weekend to see Mary Beth, should be a blasty blast.
Love you allllllllllllllllllll!
